RDS-Tools has developed a new version of RDS-WebAccess, which provides the most reliable and easy-to-use solution for publishing Windows applications on the Internet. The development team announces an available version 11.70 that adds useful improvements to the web application portal.

The latest version of Windows 10 has caused many problems among millions of users. The Windows update October 10, 2018 brought even more problems and complaints from the developers of the software. The computers hang up, the drivers become incompatible, the software is blocked or the CPU usage increases dramatically. One mistake leads to another, and one correct patch opens the need for another. This happens with the version of Windows 10 Update 1809, which appeared in October. While many known issues, such as deleting user files, have been fixed, it seems that new ones have been introduced.

We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,” says Microsoft on its support site for the Windows Update. Microsoft is now recommending that if you’ve manually downloaded the October Update, “please don’t install it, and wait until new media is available.”

To protect RDS-WebAccess clients from these problems, and to increase support for all versions of Windows and ensure optimal stability even in such unexpected situations, the RDS-Tools team of developers invested in system analysis, stress tests and stress tests as well as general system analysis. As a result, their talented programmers were able to identify the weak link in Windows: the Windows shell.

For each new version of Windows, Microsoft adds more and more features to the Windows shell. It changes the behavior of the Start button, runs useless processes in the foreground, runs user-driven system tasks, adds new widgets, uses various drivers and generally compromises the compatibility of Windows applications with the version above.

Such improvements may correspond to users of Lambda PC, but in the case of application servers does not work. The main task of most companies is to ensure efficiency thanks to easy access to any business application, including SAP, CRM, accounting and payroll applications. The role of the server is to provide access to applications from corporate Internet portals, as well as the Intranet itself. Companies expect quick application responses, no regression, secure remote access and a high level of user satisfaction.

The addition of sophisticated icons, touch devices, a modern user interface, animated widgets, etc. do not provide any value for the implementation of the application on the server. The price paid for the so-called “improvements” is high. All this translates into higher CPU and memory consumption, increased costs of IT consultants related to customizing Windows default settings and frequent user training as the GUI evolves. For existing Windows applications, billions of dollars are wasted each year, adjusting only the current IT infrastructure to the changing requirements of the Windows shell.

RDS-Tools strives to protect the interests of its customers, so the team of developers decided to invest in a technical solution to eliminate problems with the Windows shell: an alternative RDS-WebAccess shell.

For many years, RDS-WebAccess included a replacement shell technology that provided an effective “application control” function. When users started the SAP client, they did not launch the remote desktop; they just started SAP. In this way, it is not possible to view the server files, nor does it have access to other applications installed on the server. This is an important security feature that all customers have from the very beginning.

However, some RDS-WebAccess clients want to allow their users to run a remote desktop. In such cases, the Windows shell becomes a problem, and this problem can only get worse in the future. You can figure out which Windows shell problems will be added by Microsoft.

For this reason, RDS-Tools has decided to extend its alternative shell technology and develop its own display solution for the “alternative remote desktop”. This solution has the appearance of the Windows 2016 desktop, but does not run the Windows shell itself. It provides rather the convenience of using a desktop computer through an alternative RDS-WebAccess shell. This new solution is integrated with version 11.70 and is based on two products: a custom WinXshell version, WinPEs based WinPE technology for W10 and a custom Open Shell subset, a widely used solution that mimics the behavior of the Windows Start Button.

Version 11.70 is the first implementation of this new alternative RDS-WebAccess shell solution. WinXShell has been redesigned in accordance with RDS-WebAccess requirements. It now provides features as well as graphical experience similar to the Windows 2016 shell, such as displaying the Start button 2016 and the taskbar. Therefore, remote RDS-WebAccess users can use the desktop feature of the latest version of Windows without having to deal with all the Windows shell problems.

Saving Windows server resources (e.g., CPU, memory, disk operations) is especially important in demanding environments where 50 or more concurrent users connect to an RDS server. For such demanding loads, an “alternative WinXshell coating” is the right solution. That’s why RDS-Tools uses it as the default for RDS-WebAccess licenses with more than 10 users. The goal is to guarantee optimal stability and the highest level of application performance for installations of all sizes.

This first step for RDS tools marks a turning point for user experience. The creator of the software will continue to invest and improve the new desktop. RDS-WebAccess 11.70 is not only the right solution for all known Windows shell problems,

RDS-WebAccess 11.70 Increases application control

For years, Application Control has allowed any RDS administrator to assign applications to a user or groups. Its value is unlimited. When users (local or domain members) open their sessions via the web portal, only the applications assigned to them are started instead of the full remote desktop. In this environment, the remote user task bar and the Start button are deleted. However, users can minimize their use, in which case the notification area icons (taskbar icons) will still be displayed. Up to the last version, this screen has been hard-coded in the work area on the user’s screen.

As part of the new solutions included in the RDS-WebAccess 11.70 application, the display function of the minimization button has also been improved. In version 11.70 it is possible to specify the location of the minimization buttons (on the right, left or center of the screen). The administrator can even decide to display them at the top of the user’s screen instead of by default at the bottom. AdminTool has been improved to easily and intuitively customize the taskbar.

RDS-WebAccess 11.70 Provides optimal security

The RDS-WebAccess web application portal and its unique HTML5 client are the most advanced and cost-effective solutions for publishing any Windows application. The only condition for remote launch of QuickBooks, SAP, CRM or Outlook while traveling is using the Chrome or Safari browser. You can do it using MAC, smartphone or iPad with no difference in performance.

Cybercrime is a plague of the Internet in the 21st century, and security gaps and security issues can put companies at risk.

The new version 11.70 offers significant security improvements to support the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. The choice of ciphers for SSL certificates uses HTTPS communication, comprehensive encryption of all CGI communication, and even HTTP encryption based on RSA encryption with size from 512 to 4096 bits.

According to the latest audits carried out by RDS-Tools (reports on the hacker penetration test), the RDS-WebAccess 11.70 web portal and the HTML5 solution ensure the highest possible level of security. However, the company does not intend to stop working on this endless challenge. Security is and will continue to be a priority for the programming team.

As part of RDS-Tools’ commitment to maintaining security as the most important goal, the RDS-WebAccess 11.70 release also includes the latest version of RDS-Knight Ultimate Security, thus adding new anti-ransomware protection.

“In RDS-Tools, we focus on one principle: to ensure the security of applications and data around the world – anywhere, anytime and on any device or network. We believe that our technology can free organizations and help them increase productivity and innovation, as well as provide IT departments with peace of mind that essential systems will always be available and secure. Everything we do focuses on our core values: simplicity, efficiency, innovation, security and accessibility, “explained J. Davies, President.

Since 2007, from year to year, RDS-Tools is proud to provide remote desktop software products to meet the requirements of server-based companies. Cloud computing, SaaS, mobility, Windows servers must use the best-secured solutions – anytime, anywhere.
